Swatches (after removing of the balms, leaving just the stains):
Left to Right: Precious, Charm, Sweetheart
Sweetheart is a bright hot pink, a little on the cooler toned side. You can very well still see the exact colour on your lips even wiping it off.
Charm is a peach nude that might turn out a little chalky on darker skin tones. If you have seen korean k-pop singers sporting a nude peachy lips. This shade will help to achieve that look. The stain for this is however barely visibile. This might not work well on pigmented lips.
Cherish is a very universal shade. It provides a “my lips but better” shade for me. I see myself reaching for these more often.
These are often compared to Clinique chubby sticks except that these are lip balms plus stain combined. As claimed by Revlon, these provide a gel like consistency like a balm and I couldn’t agree more! Take a look at the swatch of Sweetheart below.
The finish of the balm gives my lips the juicy succulent look. When applied, you can smell the strong mint scent on your lips and it also gives your lips a cooling sensation. That is because the balm stain is flavored with peppermint oil.
Regarding the balm / moisturizing factor of this lip crayon, it does not dry out the lips much like some stains do but I will not see myself using this as a regular lip balm. On its own, it might not be moisturizing enough in my opinion. However, they are definitely more hydrating than some of the lipsticks I have owned.
If you have flaky lips however, these balm stain will make the dry skin on your lips even more prominent. To use these, your lips need to be smooth.
Below is a photo of the balm stain after 3 hours of wear. The colour is still very vibrant and there is still some slight glossiness to it.
After 8 hours of wear:
I ate my dinner, and even showered with the balm stain on. You can definitely see some patchiness of the stain and my lips seem to be getting dryer as the dry lines are more significant. Each shade has different staying power in my opinion. With more vibrant colours like Sweetheart, you can definitely get a solid colour even with 3-4 hours of wear. The sheen starts to fade after 4 hours. The stain will last up to 8 hours but you can always retouch it with some of the balm in between for a solid colours throughout the entire day.
Just solid lip stains are usually too drying for me and I like that Revlon came up with these stain and balm crayons for girls like me. These twist up crayons are easy to use, without the fuss of using a lip liner or even a pencil sharpener. Now that Revlon has them in Singapore, go try these out!
