Hi all!
Having visited BKK last year, I wanted to document some of the places that I went which are worth sharing with my readers! BKK will always have new F&B businesses each month, but these are a few that had been popular on IG (that’s where I found the places), and we shall see if they are worth a visit.
Jeh O Chula
With an honorary mention in Michelin Guide, I can see why this Tom Yam Mamee is everybody’s favourite supper dish. This location is quite near the BTS Stadium so you can just take a Tuktuk / Grab down from Siam area if you are nearby.
We were lucky enough to skip the queue with a Klook ticket. When we reached the restaurant, there was a long queue, for both locals and tourists. With this Klook ticket, you can easily skip the hassle of waiting, and look for the staff at the entrance and by just show them the Klook ticket on your phone, you have saved yourself some time! They will ask you to wait at the entrance while they arrange a table for you on the spot.
Eating raw sashimi like this is my first, and this dish was surprisingly refreshing. The best dish has to be the mamee, and it is not the mama instant noodle that is drawing the crowd, but it is the tom yam soup! It tastes zesty with the lime slices, with a hint of spiciness from the tom yam.ย A very refreshing combination.
This is definitely a supper spot, so trust me, a KLOOK voucher will save you all the hassle. However, do note that this menu only starts from 10pm as it is a supper dish!

Ong Tong Khao Soi
This noodle chain is another recommended restaurant by Michelin Guide. The outlet I visited was all filled with locals during the lunch hour. Ordering this was without hassle as we just need to fill up the order form which is in English. I ordered their original KhaoSoi with soup which is around 79 Baht. The soup is creamy and spicy, very much similar to the coconut chicken curry we have in Singapore. We opted for the chicken meat instead of pork or beef, and the chicken comes in a drumstick.
I would recommend the coconut curry soup instead of the Stir-Fried KhaoSoi with egg which is 89 baht. If you like crab roe, you can also order this side dish –ย moist pooย ongย ( which is a mixture of grilled rice-fieldย crab’s eggsย and egg)!

Insects in the Backyard
Search no more for the tastiest edible insects in Bangkok. Saving the best for last, I totally recommend this restaurant, even for the faint-hearted! Housed inside one of the blocks at the creative Chang Chui creative space, Insects in the Backyard has 2 menus – one for the adventurous and one for the not so daring.
For me and my “garang” husband, we decided to try all the smaller dishes with insects as we just had our dinner earlier on. First of all, this fine dining asian fusion restaurant is beautifully decorated and despite it having a fine dining cuisine, the food is affordably priced. We especially love the stuffed animals in the dioramas.
The insects added a pleasant crunchiness to your main dish. The insects itself were fried with a nice spice flavour.
I had pleasantly enjoyed my time there and would definitely return there in a heartbeat the next time I am in Bangkok.

Places you can skip!
Mae Khlong Hua Pla Mo Fai
Now for the most disappointing meal during the holiday as to be this seafood restaurant which received a lot of buzz due to the Wong Nai brothers (you know the duo that slaps the table because the food is supposed oh so good?) Well, this ended up being mediocre and we spent quite a fair bit on this meal as the crab dish comes with quite a hefty price. Perhaps we have too high expectations but the overall taste of the crabs was not working for us.
This restaurant is also quite out of the way, on the outskirts of Bangkok. Luckily Chang Chui market was nearby or else, the night would have ended with us having unsatisfied stomach and taste buds.

Opening hours: 2pm to 10pm daily
Artbox @ Chuvit garden
Shifted to a more permanent space, the Artbox at Chuvit garden was a disappointment. Food options were limited. The area is smaller, and probably just one quarter the size of the Singapore version of Artbox here. Skip this unless you really have time to spare.

This marshmallow pig was probably the only thing that draws me into trying the drink. The pig is too sweet and too much for just one person. However, this was fun to take photos of.

Stretsis Parlour
Really Instagram worthy whimsical floral-themed cafe with expensive cakes and coffee. This is best to describe Stretsis Parlour. Minimum spend is required for each guest, so if you travel in pairs, don’t expect them allowing you to share just one meal. Although this tea room looks like a dream come true, and the food looks straight out of a fairytale, the price and the lackluster service disappointed me.
Still, enjoy the pictures! As I have to admit, I went there for the ‘gram.
