Hi all!
Bird nest has been a luxury / prized drink for many Chinese families, due to their rarity and high nutritional and are believed to aid in anti-aging and anti-cancer. According to traditional Chinese medicine and also our moms and the older generation, it promotes good health, especially for the skin.
About LENE Bird’s Nests
At Lene, their harvested bird nests are a result of sustainable farming. They are sourced from Malaysia, from house nests instead of cave nests. House nests have conditions that are easier to control compared to cave nests. Lene’s bird’s nests are cleaned by hand with water, free of bleach and other chemicals. The bird’s nests are cooked in small batches in a SFA-approved facility in Singapore, freshly brewed upon order. As you can see here, the production date is printed on each bottle so that consumers would know the freshness of the bird’s nest and also to consume it before within 2 months of production.
Benefits of bird’s nests
The founder of Lene started this brand, as she has asthma and her mother would always make bird nest for her as it is nourishing for the lungs as well. At Lene, they believe that Bird’s nest is fundamentally a supplement and a tonic similar to the Traditional Chinese Medicine concept about nourishing the body from inside out.
All the benefits of bird’s nests:
- 18 different amino acids
- contains glycoproteins, a high energy substance that the body can easily absorb to boost weak immune system
- contains proteins, and minerals that are essential for the healthy development of children
- clear phlegm, ease chronic dry coughs, and relieve fatigue
- stimulate the appetite, improve digestion and stimulate bowel movement
- supports collagen and elastin formation to maintain youthfulness and enhance the complexion
Quality
How do you tell a good quality bird nest? You can observe the strands of the bird nest and it is clear to see through the glass jars for Lene Bird’s Nest. Quality bird’s nests have thick strands when cooked, and should not be in bits and pieces. Bird’s nests are strands of salivary secretion woven together to form the nest of swiftlets. For products using the actual body of the nest, the strands will remain.
For the formula of Lene’s bird’s nest, it is also made up of Monkfruit extract and distilled water. Monkfruit has high anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have also shown for its anti-cancer effect and protection for the liver. You can read up more about Monkfruit here.
Taste
Most of the bird’s nests in the market are not only expensive but also high in sugar. This is not too sweet and it goes down easily. While this may be a little bland in comparison to other bird’s nest in the market, it is much healthier with zero sugar added. The natural sweetness from Lene’s bird’s nest is from mogrosides derived from monk fruits.
I also like to drink this warm so what I do is to prepare a small pot of hot water and place the jar into the hot water to warm up the bird’s nest. Just a 5 minutes water bath is sufficient and it will make the bird nest warm. If you follow TCM, it is always better to consume drinks that are of the same temperature as your body temperature for your stomach to digest it easily.
Price
Over here, I have pictured the Lene essential pack with 9 jars of bird’s nest that is priced at $99. They also have a subscription plan that has a weekly delivery of 9 bottles of their Bird’s Nests to your doorstep that can be cancelled anytime.
Delivery
Lene’s products are delivered over the weekends only. I hope one day their business is big enough to also support deliveries over the weekdays too.
Sustainability
All of Lene’s packaging is printed in soy ink on recycled paper. Their packaging is designed to be recyclable. The jars can also be passed back to them at your next delivery so that they can be recycled. I actually kept my jar bottles to store some of my spices and condiments for my kitchen. First orders will be in their signature box that is shown in this post. Subsequent orders will be sent in their signature carrier bag. I appreciate the sustainable efforts carefully thought out by the founder. This will play a huge part in us reducing waste for our environment.
Overall, this is not only a great gift for yourself but also a great gift for your family and friends.
