Hi all!
Moving into a BTO flat for the first time, we had a bit of a shock when we realized that there is no outdoor area by the service yard for us to hang our laundry out as what most of us are used to while growing up. No bamboo poles, and only a few bars outside the window to hang barely less than 10 clothes.
Another factor that we face was that there is not much sunlight in the morning as our service yard is facing another block. This is very different from where I used to stay where we have an abundance of sunlight and ventilation at the service yard. My mom always tells me that the sun will kill germs and bacteria, and the ventilation will prevent the clothes from smelling musky. Investing in a dryer is not ideal due to the lack of space we have at our service yard. Additionally, some clothes cannot be used in a dryer so we are still back to square one.
Lucky us, the automatic rack drying system is gaining popularity as it does not require any manual pulling of the rack down. We are also paying for extra functions that can speed up the process of drying our clothes. For me, my most ideal system is to be able to provide UV to sterilize the clothes (since we are living in a pandemic), as well as ventilation with hot air to dry my clothes faster.
Here are some factors that I was considering when looking for the right automatic drying system:
- Loading capacity size
- UV disinfection lamp
- Heater
- Fan
- Extendable poles
- Champagne colour to match our home
Goodwife Laundry
There are a few brands in the Singapore market now to compare but I ended up with Goodwife (rebranding to Goodliving) Premium model (https://goodwife.sg/collections/best-sellers/products/premium) at SGD999. There are often sales so be sure to check out with the sales person for any ongoing promotions.
Functions and Features
Functions of the Premium model:
- Built-in Solar heaters
- One press button for the laundry rack to retract
- Can be linked with a smart phone app
- Additional accessories such as small clips and wire basket
This laundry rack comes with 5 years warranty.
Their remote control is also lightweight unlike another brand that I saw that is heavy and somehow prone to breaking. Intially, I also worry that the laundry rack is too lightweight for hanging my bedsheet and duvet covers but as you can see, I can hang all my pillowcases, bolster case, duvet cover and bedsheet effortlessly. As these are bulkier fabrics, I made use of the heating and fan to speed up the drying process.
Overall, I am impressed with Goodwife laundry system and would recommend this to anyone!
