Review: La Mer Creme De La Mer Soft Cream

On September 22, 2012 by Michelle Ng

Hey everyone!

It has been weeks since my first event post on La Mer Creme De La Mer Soft Cream, and after trying out the cream, here is my review!

The new moisturizing soft cream deliverous miraculous benefits.

Advanced moisturizing sphere technology allowed this luxurious formula to penetrate deeply, replenishing moisture and strengthening skin. Renewed and energized, skin looks youthfully radiant. La Mer Creme De La Mer Soft Cream hold a basic ingredient that all Creme De La Mer has – La Mer Miracle Broth.

Half a century ago, aerospace physicist Dr. Max Huber suffered burns in a laboratory accident. Neither medicine nor science offered the benefits Dr. Huber sought, and he began a personal quest to transform the look of his skin. 12 years passed. 6,000 experiments were conducted. Finally, he perfected the precious, nurturing Miracle Broth™ using sea kelp, which he incorporated into the very first La Mer formula, Crème de la Mer.

Aside from the Pacific Sea Kelp used to create the Miracle Broth, La Mer works with Marine Biologists and oceanographic institutions around the world to source new sea derived ingredients – ex. Bioceramic white coral in The Radiant Serum, etc. La Mer supports marine conservation organizations around the world and raises awareness for ocean conservation through the World Oceans Day campaign.

Now available in 5 unique formulas, there is a texture of Crème de la Mer to transform every complexion: The original Crème de la Mer; the supple new Moisturizing Soft Cream; the lightweight Moisturizing Lotion, ideal for use in warmer weather; the refreshing Moisturizing Gel Cream; and the mattifying Oil Absorbing Lotion.

Left to Right:

  1. Creme de la mer - Born from the sea, this legendary cream has the power to visibly transform the skin. Firmness improves, lines, wrinkles and pores become less apparent, skin looks virtually ageless.
  2. The moisturizing soft cream – This luxurious cream delivers miraculous benefits in a supple texture. It penetrates deeply to replenish moisture and strengthen skin. Renewed and energized, skin looks youthfully radiant.
  3. The moisturizing gel cream – This ultra-light gel leaves skin feeling deeply hydrated and refreshed, delivering the same radiance, renewal and suppleness that made the original creme de la mer a legend.
  4. The moisturizing lotion – With all the transformational benefits of the original creme de la mer, this fluid lotion is ideal for when weather is warmer. Skin becomes softer, smoother and firmer, sensitivities are soothed, radiance restored.
  5. The oil absorbing lotion – This deeply hydrated and soothing oil-free lotion leaves skin with a soft, matte finish. Ideal for warmer weather.

Here are the three creams in the pots side by side – left clockwise : Original creme de la mer, moisturizing gel cream, soft cream.

Comparison Review:

Just based on the pictures, you can definitely tell that the soft cream is in between the original cream and gel. The original cream itself is very thick, and requires rubbing of it between your fingers or palm before application. This will activate the agents in the cream, penetrating deeper into your skin.

For the soft cream however, no warming up of it is required, and you can apply it straight to your face. Their new sphere technology helps in better penetration. I can definitely feel this being absorbed into my skin faster, compared to the original cream. As for the gel, despite its texture, it provides huge amount of moisture to my skin surprisingly. What the trainer has told me is that for all the textures, they provide the equal amount of moisture and benefits. Therefore, the texture of the product that you may choose would be based on your preference and your skin type.

I would recommend the soft cream for all skin types in fact. Oily skinned ladies or men still need moisturizing and the soft cream would be a great night moisturizer. For day use, I would recommend the gel type. Dry skinned peeps might want to use the soft cream for day time and the original cream for night time. Soft cream would be more versatile if you just want to buy one texture. You can use a pea size as a normal moisturizer or slather on a generous amount as an hydration mask.

The original cream may feel just a tad sticky upon application as it takes time to sink in. Soft cream and gel would be less sticky, but in terms of moisture retention, I feel that the soft cream would work better, just because it is slightly thicker than gel. Soft cream would be my choice!

Left to right: The moisturizing lotion, Oil absorbing lotion

Comparison Review:

Between the two lotions, both feel the same in terms of thickness and texture. The oil absorbing lotion however provides a matter finish rather than a dewy finish that all the other creams and lotion gives. Oil absorbing lotion would definitely be more suitable for oily skin.

Now how then is the moisturizing lotion different to the new soft cream?

From what I felt on my fingers, the soft cream is a tad thicker than the moisturizing lotion. The gel formula is the lightest among all the five textures. Despite that, in terms of absorption, the soft cream sink into my skin faster. I applied both the lotion and soft cream to different sides of my face, and after a minute, the side of my face with the soft cream feels less sticky. I guess the advanced sphere technology really works! Soft cream would be the ideal texture to use before applying makeup because you want your moisturizer to sink in fast. However, after 5 – 10 mintues, both side of my skin is equally moisturized and have sinked into my skin eventually.

Overall review of Soft Cream:

Soft cream provide a fast penetration into the skin, giving the skin benefits within a short amount of time. This texture is the most versatile texture for all skin types and in different climates, depending on whether you use it in the day or night. In terms of moisture, and hydration, my skin feels supple and no longer thirsty after application. Keeping in mind that I have dry to normal skin, soft cream would give sufficient moisture to normal to oily skin. In Singapore’s weather, soft cream provide sufficient hydration and comfort.

All in all, the soft cream is definitely a great addition to the La Mer family.

The new Moisturizing Soft Cream retails at SGD $255 (30ml) and SGD $440 (60ml).

Availability:  September 2012 at all La Mer locations (Takashimaya, Robinsons Centrepoin, TANGS Orchard, Singapore Changi Airport)
