Haul + Swatches: Chanel Ombre Contraste in Notorious

On November 10, 2012 by Michelle Ng

Hi all!

Chanel sure knows how to create a hype over their products. In addition to the hype about this unique mauve-taupe powder, I saw Raeview’s youtube chanel on this sculpting veil and I was sold!  This sculpting veil can be used for both eyes and face.

This is part of the limited-edition CONTRASTES ESSENTIELLES Collection, which was just released in Singapore yesterday. Only at Marina Bay Sands outlet, Ion outlet and Takashimaya outlet – for $67.

It’s funny how I can spend days deciding if I should purchase a $80 watch when I made my purchase for a Chanel makeup item without any second thought! While my best friend called me having a makeup fever, I couldn’t care less. It is definitely one limited edition Chanel item I cannot miss!

As usual, the Chanel compact comes with a thick velvet pouch for your LBC (little black compact).

Described as a mauvey-taupe, it can look brown or grey under different lightings or on different skin-tones. If you have a cool undertone, it may look more grey and vice versa if you are of a warmer undertone.

The brush that comes with it is soft and small enough for precise contouring.

I wouldn’t describe this as a complete matte contour shade as there is seem to be a subtle reflective finish for this sculpting veil.

The “pearl” finish is not a bad thing because it gives this sculpting veil more dimension to your face.

Though the swatch on my finger seems intense, it swatches out sheer on my hand. The veil is build-able depending on the intensity you like. To build it up to maximum intensity is definitely possible, as seen on the models on Chanel 2012/13 Fall-Winter ready to wear fashion show.

On my yellow-toned hand, Notorious came out slighter warmer than on the pan.

Because of its sheerness, it blends out easily as seen above. However, you can still see some “shadow casting” over my veins. For natural contouring, I would suggest using just a slight amount of product. Of course, if you are tanner than me (NC25 and above), a heavier hand would be required. The main key to using this is to start with less product and build it up as you wish. Blending out any sharp edges is a must to look natural with this sculpting veil. This will definitely look much better when worn with blushers.

I wish I could take some face swatches but my skin is recovering right now from some allergies. Sorry to disappoint, but I hope to post up some face swatches soon!
