Haul: Sephora 20% off Private Sale + Cafe Review: Marmalade Toast

On November 5, 2012 by Michelle

Hi all!

Let me begin the week with a haul! Hauling makes me happy, at the expense of my wallet of course. However, it is such a rare occasion to have Sephora having a 20% off private sale! Who can miss that really?

This is my mini haul:

My everyday Burt’s Bees Very Volumizing Shampoo with Pomegrante. I like this not for the volumizing factor but it cleanse my scalp really well like a clarifying shampoo. This works really well with my oily scalp but I never use this shampoo on my hair ends as it will really dry them out.

As I have been contemplating to get a face primer for the longest time, I guess now is the best time to spend on one. There was a stand at Sephora showcasing all the face primers and I picked this Amazing Cosmetics Anti Aging Face Primer among all the recommended ones because it is oil free, fragrance free and paraben free. We shall this how this fares so watch out for a review.

The Sephora outlet I went to is at Takashimaya and since I was duper early, like 9am (just cause I dropped by dad off at the airport early in the morning – not really for the sale of course!), I decided to have a breakfast. Having heard about Marmalade Toast quite a few times, I gave this a try!

This cafe is tucked at the little corner on the 2nd floor, aways from all the shops. There is a door leading to the lifts next to Christian Louboutin and you have to get through another glass door before you find this Marmalade Toast on the right.

Early at 9am, with the desserts greeting you once you step in, how can you not resist eating them for breakfast? Now I wonder if these were left overnight or freshly baked…hmmm.

They have quite a wide variety of pastries, desserts and more.

They have a open kitchen concept where the staffs would prepare your salad, wraps or toasts right in front of you. You can order from the menu on the wall and they will be served to you once ready.

Lemon Meringue cake ($6). Just because of its horns.

Overall, its just a plain cake with lemon essence and the light, airy meringue is pretty sweet. Wouldn’t recommend it if you are afraid of things too sweet. The meringue would be nicer if it is less sweet. However, I understand from the making of meringues that the sugar helps to give the meringue its shape so that it will not collapse easily.

The cake is actually for my mum. What I have for myself is a peanut butter and banana toast with Earl Grey Tea ($6 for the set).

I was quite disappointed to see regular bread for my toast as I expected something more. This looks like I can make easily at home blindfolded. Nevertheless, I still manage to devour it all because nothing can go wrong with peanut butter and banana.

Overall, this place is pretty average in my opinion (but I am only basing my judgment on just two dishes). On the other hand, it is  a nice chill-out place if you need to give your legs a rest from all the shopping at Orchard Road. The affordable price is a plus too considering that this cafe is located at the heart of Orchard, although it can be a little hard to find if you are heading there for the first time.
