Food: Hana Japanese Restaurant without the Flying Noodles (Flaming Ebi Katsu Maki with Raclette Cheese)

On October 12, 2017 by Michelle Ng

Hello all!

I brought my cousin from Hong Kong to try Hana Japanese Restaurant at The Forum for their flying noodles. This restaurant has been on a craze lately with people flocking over to pose with the flying soba noodles.

Unfortunately, we ordered the wrong dish and our noodles turn out to be non-flying instead. What a spoiler! Just be careful, you have to make sure your noodles has the word “flying” in it.

This Mentaiko Udon (unfortunately, not flying) is surprisingly quite a delish! I may even think that this has more flavour than the regular Flying soba.

This restaurant is so on trend! Raclette cheese has been many people’s favourite and they even come up with a maki version. First, the maki comes in a hot plate with a layer of sea salt at the bottom of the hot plate. I think I may even eat this maki alone, but with some mayonnaise or soya sauce, else it may be too dry.

The waiter then proceeds to scrap off the hot cheese from the cheese wheel. Be prepared to whip out your camera for your Instagram or Boomberang! From wikipedia, Raclette is a semi-hard cow’s milk swiss cheese that is usually fashioned into a wheel of about 6 kg. Imagine the waiter holding 3kg worth of cheese in front of you.

With a blow torch, the cheese is now being grilled to the warm and gooey perfection. To be honest, just for 2 ladies to finish this is a feat. The cheese is quite filling, and not to mention the maki already contains carbs – rice! I would say that this dish is served best when accompanied with some alcohol. The Hana restaurant do have a good range of creative cocktails that customers can try.

The dish is lastly being lighted up on the salt bed. The flames do not last forever, so snap away before it is gone! This is truly one instagrammable dish.

We also had Terriyaki Salmon as a side dish but we were just filled to the brim as both our other dishes contains cream or cheese. However, I cant tell you enough of how photography worthy their food are. I will definitely be back again to try the rest of their dishes, and hopefully their desserts in the future!
